Fats Navarro Tribute

A musical tribute to legendary Key West Jazz Trumpeter, Theodore “Fats” Navarro has been held annually at the famous Green Parrot Bar, in Key West since 2006. The tribute began April 23, 2006 after local jazz guitarist, Larry Baeder petitioned John Vagnoni, Managing General Partner of the Green Parrot to celebrate Fats Navarro. They chose the third Sunday of April starting with a Gospel/Soul Brunch, followed by a local Jazz All Star band, ending with a local Blues or R&B group. The event is a fundraiser for a local children’s music education organization, the Bahama Village Music Program.

Every year some of the best musicians in Key West gather to pay tribute to a hometown Jazz phenomena - Fats Navarro.

The story begins in Key West, Florida where Theodore "Fats" Navarro was born on September 24, 1923. His life was short but his accomplishments in jazz were great and far reaching in their influence on later trumpeters.
