The Key West Goombay Festival has a very rich history with roots that go all the back to Africa. The word goombay relates to the beating of drums and dance that goes along with it, that was brought to America through the Bahamas. Many of Key West's original Bahama Village residence are of Bahamian decent.
Starting at the corner of Duval and Petronia streets the Bahama Village Goombay Festival has grown over the years and evolved into an educational as well as cultural experience.
