The Western Union was framed up in the Caymans from locally grown Cayman mahogany tree called the "Plop Nut". This was the favorite wood of the Cayman shipbuilders. Unfortunately there are not many Plop Nut trees left in the Caymans.

The frames were marked torn down and shipped to Key West for assembly.
